States, James "BEEZ"
“Beez”, has been creating artwork since childhood. He was born and raised in the small village of McConnellstown, just outside of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania near Raystown Lake. The scenic and natural beauty of the area has long been an inspiration for his work.
James began his formal art education in 1999 at Lycoming College in Williamsport, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in studio art and his art education certification. Upon graduation, James began work as an adjunct drawing instructor at Lycoming College and as a 7-12th grade art teacher at Mansfield Jr. Sr. High School. He recently moved to Wellsboro, PA. He continues to teach at Mansfield, as well as pursue his master’s degree in Art Education, and additionally create and show artwork in various Pennsylvania galleries and exhibitions.
James practices a wide array of media in his artistic pursuits. His role as an instructor, and his own desire to pursue more artistic avenues, makes it necessary for him to be accomplished in all aspects of the visual arts. He works in a variety of drawing and painting styles, as well as ceramics and sculpture. Taking his influence from nature, those around him, as well as historical and cultural influences, James has produced an expansive collection of artwork.
As his influences grow and change, James plans to continue to create an innovative and diverse body of work. He is always embarking on new ideas, while maintaining some of the roots and influences that have brought him to this point.
